Libra 2020

Written by Carlota Elauria

This forecast is for your Ascendant sign,
which can be computed at Filipinoastrologer.com.

Opportunities
The first part of the year finds you busy and hardworking, due to Saturn, Pluto, Jupiter and the Solar Eclipse of Dec. 2019 all in Capricorn.

You are set to have your first taste of being out in the public eye as Saturn transits your 5th House from March 22 to July 2, when you are likely to feel like a new dawn has come into your life and start putting effort on your physical appearance and self-presentation.

The Great Conjunction on Dec. 22 in your 5th House may spark a significant beginning in the areas of romance, children, self-expression, hobbies, creativity, and happiness that will last a long time.

Mars going retrograde from Sept. 10 to Nov. 14 can give you some room for social maneuvering without much risk for personal confrontations.

Challenges
This may be a rather difficult year for you but one with potential for tremendous growth. Jupiter and Saturn are both transiting your 4th House, marking this year as one where you set a long-term foundation.

You may experience a sort of "zeroing out" of all areas of your life as the Universe clears them out and sets them up for new energies.

A major career change is possible, especially in the beginning of the year (Jan.-March) or the middle (June-July). The changes brought by this energy can be challenging to handle, but highly significant for years or decades to come.

Venus retrograde from May 13 to June 25 can test your relationships and social interactions. Try not to overindulge or overspend during this time.

Balatik, Filipino hunting trap inspired by Orion: On reading about Philippine pre-colonial astronomy

By Col. Romeo Solina, PA, retired Col. Romy Solina and his BALATIK diorama A few weeks ago, “Resti” Santiago, an astrologer friend, sent me a book entitled “BALATIK.” It is a book written by a University of the Philippines professor Dante L. Ambrosio, and subtitled “Etnoastronomiya, Kalangitan sa Kabihasnang Pilipino” and obviously in the Tagalog (Filipino) language. Although I was born in Manila and an a Tagalog, I found it rather a problem reading the contents of the book. Still, I must go over it since I must be knowledgeable in my own native language. On the other hand, the author must have a doctorate, having gone through the baccalaureate and master degrees to be able to write this treatise in the university as I also have gone through. The Balatik book concerns the methods used by the natives of the Philippines using the signs in the skies in order to determine certain seasons for their activities, such as fishing, sailing, hunting, planting, harvesting, and so on. ...

100 Years: The Life and Work of Serafin Lanot (Part 2)

By Ime Morales Read Part 1 Overhauling the Zodiac As the best known astrologer in the country at the time, mainly because of his book Astrology Through Filipino Eyes, which was read not only in America but also across Europe, Serafin Lanot was the only Filipino who got invited to attend the international conference of the American Federation of Astrologers or the AFA. In fact, he was made a member of the AFA convention faculty. During the conference, he presented his paper titled, One World, One Astrology. He wrote in that paper: "Now is the time for astrologers to assume the leadership in this fight for change, no longer as mere consultants and counselors to money changers and reactionary leaders, but as leaders themselves during this Age of Aquarius, assuming the mantle of seer and sage that both history and legend have thrust upon us." He went on to propose a "one world, one astrology" based on "reason, intuition and inspiration, to harmoniz...

100 Years: The Life and Work of Serafin Lanot (Part 1)

By Ime Morales Photos by Kat Palasi ( wwwkatpalasi.tumblr.com ) Serafin Lanot Lanot's former office As part of our research work on the life of Filipino astrologer and writer Serafin Lanot I, together with my friends from my astrology group (Astro Friends), trooped to the home of the Lanot-Lacabas to dig through the family library and go through the old journals and books of Serafin Lanot. There we discovered old certificates, rare books on astrology and even antique astrological equipment. The facts we unearthed, together with information gathered from books, Internet sources and interviews, helped build the report that I wrote for AFP in 2012. One year later, these materials also served to form my presentation on Serafin Lanot on the occasion of his 100th birthday. Finally, I am using the wealth of information culled from our collective research effort to write this entry for the website of AFP. For serious students of astrology in the Philippines, it is imp...
