Behind the Byline: How a Corporate Executive Became the '90s Most Famous—and Secretive—Astrologer

From L to R: Astrologers Resti Santiago and  Paloma with journalist-turned lawmaker Loren Legarda and Anthony Vivero, around 1999 By MARGE C. ENRIQUEZ The late Zenaida “Kid” Garcia, better known to readers as Paloma, first reached out to BusinessWorld in 1991 with a complaint that another astrologer had copied her work. She sent proof, then offered to write. The paper ran her first essay, and she soon became a regular columnist. Writing as Paloma, she kept her identity private to pursue a mission to explain astrology. The aim was to counter the view that astrology is only planetary positions or past-life claims. Her column educated general readers and showed that life involves both destiny and personal choice. Change rests with the individual, not with the moon or planets. Years of practice, she said, deepened her faith and clarified the laws of cause and effect. Astrology, in her view, can reveal patterns behind turning points and highlight universal laws whose neglect ...
WHEN ASTROLOGERS FAIL by Resti Santiago   A HANDFUL OF ASTROLOGERS, this writer included, forecasted that Leni Robredo would be the top choice of Filipinos in the 2022 presidential election. But alas, it seems that it was not meant to be, or was it? That depends on how you look at things. Even in failure, astrologers remain steadfast in pointing out what may not be apparent.   Let me dissect this failure and learn from it. As with everything else in nature, everything is not what it seems. Looking at a situation from different angles, using a different lens, always reveals some hidden truths. There can be a number of ways to assess the 2022 elections forecast. We can rant about it, analyze the astrological methods used, or discuss it philosophically to separate perennial truths from passing trends.   Ranting   As a voter, I could rant about the results of the elections. In the Philippines, whenever a politician loses, he or she will likely say th...

Astrology Basics: Why It Exists (And Why You’re Drawn to It)

If you’ve spent any time on the internet in the last few years, you’ve likely come across astrology in one form or another. From short-form videos that reduce zodiac signs into personalities— your sign as a girlfriend, your sign at work, your sign in an argument —to more in-depth breakdowns of planetary movements and transits, astrology has quietly embedded itself into modern culture. And yet, despite how visible it has become, it remains one of the most misunderstood systems people interact with. Most people don’t actually understand astrology—they consume it in fragments. In digestible, small tidbits that, while helping increase the popularity of astrology to the modern masses, can have the unfortunate side effect of diluting the complexity in faux reductionism. A post here. A video there. A thread explaining one planet, another explaining one sign. The result is a collection of disconnected ideas that feel insightful, but don’t form a complete picture. It creates a strange pa...

Malaysia Airline Flight MH370: An astrological analysis

By Rey Dela Merced The inception chart [1] was based on Flight MH370’s departure time [2] at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. We will examine the 4 th , 7 th and 8 th houses which have been associated with death in Traditional (Hellenistic and Medieval) Astrology. The End of Things and the Perpetrator Regarding the 4 th house, al-Qabisi (Alchabitius) in his work Introduction to the Science of Astrology he wrote, “al-Andarzaghar said the first Lord of the Triplicity of the house of the father signifies fathers, the second cities and lands, and the third the ends of things and prisons.” (Italics mine) In this regard, we will start with the 4 th house which signifies the “end of the matter” for Flight MH370. Looking at the chart, the Sun is below the ASC/DESC axis (Ascendant at 7 deg 48 min of Sagittarius) indicating a Nocturnal chart. In the 4 th house we have Pisces, a water sign. From the Dorothean Triplicities Table below, we have the foll...

The Cross of Matter Part 4: The Dalai Lama's Chart

By Mari Garcia Read Part 3 If we apply these [qualities and elements] to the chart of the Dalai Lama we see Capricorn on the IC.  Capricorn is cold dry suggesting that there is slowness and separation in home life, foundations and family and that they are traditional and conservative.  The ruler is Saturn in Pisces in the 6th with neutral dignity but cadent. Family and foundations are precarious and are dependent on others.  The Dalai Lama’s life started in a small farming family but he was taken at the age of four to succeed his predecessor and honour the traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. The ruler Saturn is also in a tight opposition to Neptune and the Moon echoing the sense of loss, as well as the contradiction and paradox of spiritual and physical reality. Saturn as the ruler of the IC is hampered and must bow to the will of others.  The Dalai Lama is the embodiment of Buddhist spiritualism but is also the temporal leader of the Ti...
