Astrology Basics: Why It Exists (And Why You’re Drawn to It)

If you’ve spent any time on the internet in the last few years, you’ve likely come across astrology in one form or another. From short-form videos that reduce zodiac signs into personalities— your sign as a girlfriend, your sign at work, your sign in an argument —to more in-depth breakdowns of planetary movements and transits, astrology has quietly embedded itself into modern culture. And yet, despite how visible it has become, it remains one of the most misunderstood systems people interact with. Most people don’t actually understand astrology—they consume it in fragments. In digestible, small tidbits that, while helping increase the popularity of astrology to the modern masses, can have the unfortunate side effect of diluting the complexity in faux reductionism. A post here. A video there. A thread explaining one planet, another explaining one sign. The result is a collection of disconnected ideas that feel insightful, but don’t form a complete picture. It creates a strange pa...

My current take on the COVID-19 Astrology

Written by Lots Elauria (AstroreaderPh) (NOTE: Only for those interested and unafraid. It is never my intention to spread fear through this page, only knowledge. Sometimes knowledge is not very comforting, so we must steel ourselves and focus on the good. And that is my request from you in reading this…to not let fear take over and maintain hope and courage amidst the things to come. In times like this, it is critical to maintain a high vibration, to become a beacon of Light than to curse the darkness. Soldier on. We are eternal Souls wrapped in suits of flesh, and there is NOTHING TO FEAR.) I’ve discussed the general overview of the 2020 crises on this page. As mentioned, this is a highly-pressurized year filled with many trials and catalysts for growth. There is much reason to believe that what has culturally been referred to as the ‘End Times’ or the ‘Great Tribulation’ is occurring now, to separate the ‘wheat from the chaff’ of sorts. On an energetic level, the earthly ...

Code of Ethics for Astrologers

by Resti Santiago As with any profession, astrologers need to abide by a code of ethics.  There are do’s and don’ts ethical astrologers agree to protect the name of their beloved scientia. There might be differences in techniques  and interpretations due to personality differences and other factors. One astrologer may prefer modern or psychological astrology, and another one would prefer the older system but both of them must adhere to the same code of ethics. Why is ethics important?  Ethics is important so that fleeting personal opinions and personality-based pronouncements will not erode the reputation of other astrologers or astrology itself.  Astrologers, knowing their strengths and weaknesses, should try not to project their own issues when reading their clients’ charts. One common trait of newbies (mostly males) is to use astrology as pick-up lines. Though it is understandable at first, as one tries to experiment with the knowledge, it can...

Astrology and me

By Allyssa Ashley Apple Lim My interest in astrology started when I was in elementary school. Yung mama ko kasi, pag may free time sa office , she would always read about zodiac signs and would apply it to me. Whenever we talked, she would randomly say, "that's so Sagittarius." My curiosity deepened when I entered high school and I would find out and still remember the birthdays of each and everyone in my class (including teachers). I was really addicted in sharing my knowledge with my friends. Sometimes I would give them short description of their traits according to their zodiac signs. Some were happy and some just gave an "I don't care" look, but what I discovered about people is that they always wanted to hear something about themselves, especially if other people did so for them. I was in grade seven that time and, yes, immature in a word. I don't know if this is coincidence but I fought with 5 Virgos in my whole junior year. Since I...

Effects of Jupiter in Scorpio on Your Zodiac Sign

By Monica Gamboa Image from http://www.psychics.com/blog/astrological-events-october/ October 10, 2017. This is the day Jupiter bids farewell to the lovely Libra and enters the formidable Scorpio. Every 12 to 13 years, Jupiter shifts to a new sign, teaching us to expand according to the ways of that sign. This growth cycle helps us gain a different perspective to help us realize our potential and leave behind those that no longer serve us. The signs are the way by which the planet expresses itself- the how in a situation. Scorpio’s way is the way of transformation and of healing. This is no easy sign because Scorpio, ruled by Mars and Pluto, governs death and action. She cuts to the chase and gets to the heart of the matter. She is the detective, the hypnotist, in love with the mysterious. With Jupiter in this sign, no secret will go unexplored. It is time to face our darkness and awaken from the illusions that have blinded us. Jupiter in Scorpio: October 10, 201...

The Astrology of a "Rock Star" Historian

By Resti H. Santiago As we welcome a new chapter in our history, we are thankful for the sacrifices made by many individuals who have devoted their lives to the service of the country and to the emancipation of our race. Ambeth Ocampo. There were many of them who died without ever seeing Inang Bayan free. Some of them are famous but most of them are not. Their heroism would have been forgotten if not for the efforts of historians who keep the memory of our heroes alive and relevant in our era. One such historian who has done much in our time and whose name may reverberate for the rest of the 21st century is Ambeth Ocampo, considered as a historian who has achieved a rock star status. Studying the past It is interesting to note that though worlds apart  —  the astrologer and the historian share the same passion in studying the past. Both dig up facts that they can share with the present generation of readers with the intention to make the future better. The reas...

FEARLESS FORECAST: It'll be Clinton over Trump this November!

By Jamal Ashley Abbas THE MOON and US ELECTIONS The election fever is high in the US with the two parties nominating their standard bearers. It has been repeated many times over in the astrological circle that since 1900, all presidential candidates nominated during a Void-of-Course moon lost their election bids. I am not sure if people have the exact time of the nominations in the early part of the 20th century but from the latter part of that century, I guess there were no problems in documentation. But even in the 21st century, there were some misconceptions in the timing of the nominations. In 2008, some people thought that Barack Obama was nominated during a void-of-course moon. But astrologer Debbi Kempton Smith maintained: On Wednesday, 27 August 2008 at 4.48 pm Mountain Daylight Time in Denver, Colorado (6.48 pm EDT), the words rang out: ‘Hillary moves — is there a second?' There was, and at that moment Senator Barack Obama officially became the Democratic nom...

Balatik, Filipino hunting trap inspired by Orion: On reading about Philippine pre-colonial astronomy

By Col. Romeo Solina, PA, retired Col. Romy Solina and his BALATIK diorama A few weeks ago, “Resti” Santiago, an astrologer friend, sent me a book entitled “BALATIK.” It is a book written by a University of the Philippines professor Dante L. Ambrosio, and subtitled “Etnoastronomiya, Kalangitan sa Kabihasnang Pilipino” and obviously in the Tagalog (Filipino) language. Although I was born in Manila and an a Tagalog, I found it rather a problem reading the contents of the book. Still, I must go over it since I must be knowledgeable in my own native language. On the other hand, the author must have a doctorate, having gone through the baccalaureate and master degrees to be able to write this treatise in the university as I also have gone through. The Balatik book concerns the methods used by the natives of the Philippines using the signs in the skies in order to determine certain seasons for their activities, such as fishing, sailing, hunting, planting, harvesting, and so on. ...
